I dont know how to hold a camera :0

After doing all the ancillary tasks, my group decided that we wanted to start filming. However since this was all new to us, we went out on a practice run where we went filming around school on the flip cams. We did this Before any actual filming for are film. At this point Filming had been delayed due to problems of waiting for new cameras. What we wanted to learn how to use a the camera. However are exams are coming up in January and most of are focus and spare time will be spent on revision. So hopefully we start filming at the end of January.

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 7 poster changes

Due to the constructive criticism from the feedback we received on our film poster, we decided to change the tag line font to the same font as the title of the film to keep with continuity. Here is the new film poster with tag line font change.

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 6

Teaser Poster
This poster was created using photoshop. we created this by making the background complete black which can be done easyly by using the fill tool on photoshop. We used the snow to create footprints. The quality on photoshop was not the way we wanted, so we coloured the footsteps white . We then got the font from a website .

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 5

Film Poster
After taking all the photos we needed, we looked through them and deiced which photo we wanted for the film poster. We then put the chosen photo into photoshop. We edited the photo in different ways.We then tried two put another background to make it different. eventually we kept the original background and took the colour out. The teacher still thought that we could do more to improve the poster, so we had to find out how to airbrush a photo. After that we put the text on which was created in Illustrator and then the image of the eyes off in the Internet from a website recommended by the MRC staff . Also recommended the idea bu to take all the colour out of the poster and made them white. This will be more effective and more scary which links to are short film .

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 4

When creating are film poster we wanted to incorporate some of the film. By undertaking this we had an over the shoulder shot with the youth behind the main actor . The shots would give off a sense that the main actor is being watched and followed. We also had to look at what costume because it is one important way to show the audience what type Character is being displayed. In are shots we had are main actor dressed casual smart,By doing this the Character gives the sense of a less threatening look. On the other hand the youth is dressed in dark clothes with his hoodie up,By dressing the youth up like this he is giving off a threatening and street look. Already we are giving the audience an idea of what the Character are like.

We decided that we wanted to take the picture inside the school building and turned off all the lights. However the green background ,the T.V and the lights in the other corridor got in the way and we saw this becoming a challenge when comes to the editing of the photo. Also are film is based outside and we wanted to display that as well.So we decided that taken the photo would be better outside than inside. However we saw this a great starting point.

Here is the image in the daylight, however the image does not give off a daunting vision. So when it comes to editing we will have to play around with the photo.

We uploaded the photo on photoshop and experiment with contrast of the colours to make it bit more scary.

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 3

After deciding what type of posters we were going to undertake , we needed to do some more research on more film posters . By doing this it give us an idea on what we can create as are film poster. We decided to look at the film poster for the film "no country for old men".We got attrcated to this poster because it give off a sense of fear and darkness which is simliar to the other film poster i looked at "buried". Also the poster gives off that person is being watched by the eyes which will link to are short film of the person being followed .

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 2

As we decided that we were going to undertake a teaser poster and film poster, we researched a film that has done this campaign successfully.

Buried teaser poster

"Creative black space is the new creative white space" this teaser poster for the film Buried, gives the audience an immediate sense of claustrophobia just by looking at it. Also it gives Little information about the film but not to much, which will make the public want more and convince them to watch the film . The image is basic but gives off a dramatic view.It will the audience a sense of fear, coldness , spookiness, and anticipation .

Buried film poster :

In the film poster it still gives off the same sense as the teaser poster of having fear and coldness. However this film poster gives more information like the release date, the name of the main actors and the tag line.

Friday 10 December 2010

Ancillary task 2 Film poster part 1

The second task that we have decided to undertake is a film poster. In are research for the film poster we found out that there is different types of posters . Teaser posters, character posters, motion posters and remix posters are different ways of getting the film known to the public before the real poster comes out. We decided that we wanted to try and do a teaser poster as well as the film poster. A teaser poster or advance poster is early promotion of the film. A teaser poster is sometimes released way before production on the film has started ,although issues happen during the film development. usually a teaser poster contains a basic image or design without revealing too much information such as the plot, theme, and characters.A tag line may be included. The teaser poster is meant to create incite of awareness and generate hype for the film. Whereas the film poster has a different job. Posters are usually printed in different sizes and has different content for various domestic and international markets. The poster normally contains an image and text. The film title is normally in large lettering and often the names of the main actors. It may also include a tag line, the name of the director, names of characters, the release date. Also the image is usually big and eye catching so that it can stand out. Film posters purpose is to grab the attention of the public and convince them to watch the film and to delivery important information to the audience.

I wanted to show some of the research that we found because it interesting to see how technology has moved on so far that there are servile types of film posters. This can be demonstrated by the following examples.

character Posters:

A film with an ensemble cast there may be a set of character posters, each featuring an individual character from the film. Usually it contains the name of the actor/actress, with or without the name of the character played. It may also include a tagline that reflects the quality of the character.

Motion Poster

The most recent type of poster in which the poster is animated.

Remix Poster

A poster that has been altered or "remixed" to change the intent of the original film poster. A remixed poster often contains a political or comedic message, using the credibility of the film poster format to deliver the message of whoever is creating the remixed poster.

Ancillary task 1 radio ad part 4

This is are final version of are radio trailer. We created this on a program called Final cut, an editing program that we also going to use to create are short film. How we created this is by using a flip cam to record the voice over. One of are teachers lent his significant voice to be recorded will reading the script. After the recording was done we uploaded it to the mac and started to use the program final cut. We decided that we wanted some sound effects just like the example of the coco cola ad,so that our ad is grabs the audiences attention. We got the sound effects from a massive media file from the MRC( MEDIA RESOURCES CENTER). It took us ages to look through all the files, we played around we different sound clips like hearing cars and night noises. However none of these sound clips went with the voice over audio, Luckily we came across a file that contained different types of footsteps.By using this type of sound clip it relates to are short film.Once again we looked through the different footsteps that went with the voice over. We used more than one type of footsteps.first the footsteps are slow then the speed builds up this embodies what is actual happening in the film and already gives the listeners an idea that a person is being chased. We used this technique to build up the intensity.
Below is the radio ad :

Ancillary task 1 radio ad part 3

By looking at all the research , I am able to create a radio script for are short film "Two Steps Behind". I wrote the script which can be shown below :

Smart Targets

S
Specific;
In order to make our film, we must be specific with what we choose to do. For example, costumes, setting and props must be planned and scheduled to make sure that we have guidelines. In order to be very specific, we will make a storyboard with which we can refer to during film making.

M
Measurable;
We will do a survey using fellow classmates or family members or our own judgment to make sure what is required has been achieved.

A
Achievable;
As a group we will use ideas and techniques which are achievable given the time and budget that we have. In other words, we cannot use idea which would cost alot of money or take a very long time.

R
Realistic;
Our film can be completed to a high standard and is a realistic target.

T
Time;
We will make sure that we are very aware of time and that it is not endless. Our final cut must be complete by the 19th March 2011 and we must meet this deadline.

Ancillary task 1 radio ad part 2

As we know what factors a radio ad has to have to be beneficial and success to the short film, we still don't know how to create or write a radio ad. In order to write a successful script we got advice from a website with an article on "how to write a radio ad". The website is :http://www.ehow.com/how_4909714_write-script-radio-ad.html

Also for research we looked at existing radio adverts that are very successful :

A coco cola advert :

From looking at all of this research i gathered that a radio advert is usually runs between 30 and 60 seconds long.
In the coco cola radio advert it has strong sound effects that will grab the listeners attention and stand out from other radio adverts. Also the sound effects creates an identity for the product. By doing this the public will be able to recognises and link the brand by just hearing the sound effects alone. Also in the advert it gets straight to the point and only includes the main points that the public need to hear to be sold on the product. This is very effect way and would like some of theses factors in are radio advert.

Friday 22 October 2010

Ancillary task 1 radio ad

one of are ancillary tasks is a radio ad for are short film. The reason why are group decided to do a radio ad is because in our research we found out that an estimated forty million people in the UK listen to the radio and up to seven hours a day. The radio is used to wake up people , in cars , in offices and for leisure. As an advertising medium radio is becoming increasingly more powerful.

The results you will get from your radio advertising campaign will depend on a number of factors.
*Creating an appealing commercial
*sending a clear message
*having a clear “call to action” message
*booking the right time slots on the right radio stations to reach your target audience.
Other factors could be choosing, a humorous or serious tone, background music, special effects and dialogue/script to create a picture in the listeners mind.

By looking at all of these factors it gave are group an idea of what we needed to put in are radio ad and how the radio ad is such a big medium in media. Alos if were to put out are radio ad we would see how much a it persuades the audience.

Research and feedback 2

My group decided that we wanted to change the name of are short film, to go with the changes so far. The original name for the short film was stalked , However as a group we had notice that the title " stalked" had been used to many times and would give away the storyline to quickly. Therefore we did some research and asked for suggestions on some fresh ideas for the name of are short film .
The questionnaire below shows the suggestions and the results.

What should we name are film that is the genre of suspense
Two steps behind
On the edge
escape
Runaway
lost
The great chase

pollcode.com free polls

The results showed that the title " Two steps behind" was chosen at of all the options. This will now be the title of are film.:)
Even though we are a bit behind because of all the changes, we are now making a s start in the right direction with a mew name for are film.

Mood Board

Here are some images that we collected over the time to link to our film. By doing this it is giving us inspiration and some ideas that we can use for the creation of are film .

New ideas for are film :0

Once again are group changed the initial idea of are short film and the genre to a thriller/suspense film . The reason for the change is because we believe that the new story line will fit the facilities that we have and will come out as a better short film with different camera angles. Also it allows us to try out different editing skills. By doing this it will get us a higher grade for are project as it will have various shots and angles. By changing the idea we will have a solid plot that will last the amount of time that is required by the teachers unlike are previous ideas where the teacher was not happy on the products.

How we came to this new result was by having a production meeting, where all of us brainstormed a new idea for the film :

We could't decide which story was better. To help us out i will have to do a survey.

Tuesday 12 October 2010

Location Pictures

Here are some location pictures of are film,we decided that the park is pefect becuase it is quite area for us to film. Also we could get some intreasting shots and angles which will link to are suspense film.

Film Poster Research

As part of our coursework,we had to come up with two preliminary tasks. The two task that we choose was film poster and radio trailer. To start off my group did the film poster, to help us with creating the poster,we did some research on some existing film posters of the same genre . After are group looked over the research we decided that we wanted the two female characters Jade and Jasmine to be on the poster with the bracelet. By having the bracelet its giving the audience a little insight into what the film is about.

Here are some of the examples that we looked at:

Friday 10 September 2010

StoryBoard

Here I created a storyboard in order to remain organised. We designed a series of illustrations displayed in the sequence that the film would be ordered in. This meant that we knew which direction the film was going in and how we were going to create each scene.

The first storyboards were created at the Walt Disney Studio during the early 1930s.
As you can see, the principle is exactly the same.

I found using a storyboard very useful as it helped us keep organised, when it came to filming the scenes for are short film.

What we did in the summer :)

Over the summer , Our group decided to change the idea of are short film because as we reviewed the treatment we realised that filming would be to hard for our group to coomplete the task. So to resolve this problem we redo some of the elements of the film . We decided to make the plot a little more simple so that we were able to create the film but not changing the genere. This unfourtunally means we have to redo some of planning meaning that we will be a few steps behind other groups.

Film Noir Research

I have done some research into the film noir. I looked at servile films that include Detour, which shows the normal cliches of the genre noir . I also looked at modern adaptions of the genre nior which included Shutter Island, the film showed similar things that would be in a noir film such as being dark and moody,However it did not follow all the normal cliches. This shows that films in this present time have changed in this genre since the beginning but still tries to capture some aspects of it.

Friday 25 June 2010

Pre Production - PART 3

I did some independent research into pre productions on short films . Usually how long the pre production takes for a short film depends on the length of the film and the scale of the production as well as the fiances. A script is usually drafted over and over again and is then put through a lot of re-writes before it is actually finalized.

it is known that the pre production takes up to 1 week to 3 months whereas features can take minimum 6 months to several years.

By looking at this research of how long a pre production can take, it gives are group a basic idea of what we need to do. However we do not have a year to spend on the pre production alone , so as a group we scaled the pre production time down to fit into our schedule,so that we are ready by the final deadline. Also we are not a big production company with huge finances and facilities, so we automatically have to scale it down to fit what we have to work with. While at the same time creating a good film that pleases the target audience

Also I looked at what else we needed to put in the pre production and as a group we have to scale the time down again to fit it all in and to match with the facilities that we were able to use while not breaking the bank. The reason for this is that Unlike other major production companies we don't have the big finances to make a expensive film. However this will not stop us from making a great film because as a group we will use what we have creatively to make something useful. The things that we needed to include in the pre production was the Casting of the actors, location scouts, props getting ready, sets being built, equipment being hired, finances secured.

Pre Production - PART 1

As a group we will start are pre -production. This includes all the planning for our short film such as mood boards.By doing all this planning it will ensure that we are fully ready to create our short film. I am gonna make a survey to find out what people would prefer to see out of a documentary and a short film. By doing this we are just confirming the choice that we made early on and to find what the target audience wants .

Research

My name is Danielle and this is my media blog for my A2 project. As we started the new unit in class we had to get into groups. I decided to work in a three with two other members in my class, these two members were Ainsley and Paula. Our main task was to create a video from scratch lasting up to 5 minutes maximum. To start off we had to look at the different options on the specification to choose what type of video we wanted to create e.g music video. After looking at all the options it resulted in having two choices to pick from, which were option 10 - short film or option 7 - short documentary. In the end our group decided to choose option 10 - short film because we all had a great interest into films and how the films are created. In order to be able to create a short film we had to do some research. By doing this we will have a greater knowledge on how to create a short film and learn the cliches of the different genres used in short films .

Some of the films we research were on a BBC website that had many short films and documentaries . Here are some that we looked at :http://www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/films/p007h73t
http://www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/films/p004pn2x

By looking at these short films this gave our group an idea. We decided that our film will have some kind of betrayal or envy them to it , which is similar to the films that we looked at for our research.

However before we start making any solid ideas we need to do some market and audience research to help us make the final decision about what our film is really gonna be like. Also by doing this we will be able to create a film that will appeal to our target audience.
